Guido Nicosia is a former diplomat who has represented Italy in embassies all over the world. On the verge of retirement, in 2000, he began writing novels (especially yellow), set in the Italian consular environments. The Libyan experience has inspired in Nicosia "Bel soil of love," a beautiful novel that is a slice of recent history, from colonial fascist advent of Gaddafi of Libya.
The arrival of the Adviser (the unnamed protagonist and naive) that would manage the interregnum between the ambassador and the ambassador Belcredi Culotta is an opportunity to present the Italian diplomatic community present in Tripoli (Note that a song called Bel wont twenty years of love, hence the title the book) in the early '70s, after the forced removal of all the Italians from Libya.
human race varied but limited in the number of people: police intelligence (officers), employees of the Embassy ("secretly" belonging to the secret services), secretaries thousand resources (with hooks in Italian companies military), wives and concubines (contacts of oil companies), scholars side with crowds of lovely assistants, but also usher the Grasshopper, the real point of contact between Italy and Libya.
treated from a historical novel that goes beyond borders Libya to give an overview of both the fascist history with its contradictions and hopes, both of Italy in the '70s, but also fascinating and impossible to design pan-Arab Gaddafi.
some food fun and a direct writing make it an enjoyable read as you pass the first pages of confusing with all the characters presented together.(Daniel Trombley)
