Preface
Detected beacon of journalistic excellence, "Hill" has always maintained the high quality of the articles that the public , and even today continues along the path with this journalistic investigation on the University. Obscure topic in part because of continued reforms and counter, it has not discouraged our staff, who decided to tackle the problem in a scientific way: we sent a special envoy to attend a university course. After four years of research, analysis and field testing our correspondent, Dr. Frossati, arrived near the end of his degree course and now illustrates what we have discovered answering questions from our editor Dr. Grancesco.
Staff Writer
Hello, Frossati. Then, four years of investigative journalism: how do you feel?
a little 'tired, to tell the truth, dear Grancesco. But I can say I discovered many things about the university.
Do not tell me ... However, for our readers: what university did you attend?
The Politecnico di Milano, choosing the course of Engineering Mathematics, a recent addition to offering teaching of the university.
On what basis did you choose this course?
I was undecided, and I finally chose the one with the best name.
Excellent idea! Well, we go to your searches ... For example, people living in college?
Be ', there is a very diverse fauna: there are the VO, the NO, the NMO ... and these are just the students!
Wait, translate for our readers.
Right ... then, students of the Old Order are the ones that came before the famous reform of the 3 +2, 1999, that of Moratti to speak. People who are now beginning to be a bit 'elderly, and is endangered .. but there are still several around: them apart because they no longer have even a hair, and running with a briefcase - probably studying and working. But they all looked proud: they still belong to university "Old", with a few big ones and examinations.
Okay, and then with the reform of '99?
have entered those of the New Order, those of the 3 +2: the government thought they saw that young Italians stayed in college for too many years, it was better to divide into two pieces the path, a bit 'as they do in other countries.
Did it work?
Well ... the attempt was noble, but we have come ill-thought-out. Encountered a number of problems: first, the students were getting pretty long time to make the university experience "long", all 5 years. The possibility of leaving after three was used, but less than had been hoped, partly because the world of work began to be saturated with graduates, and therefore gave priority to graduates of five years.
Other problems?
no doubt that the proliferation of tests: with the reform of the universities have had much more freedom, and have broken not only the routes but also the degree examinations - the gossips say to increase the number of chairs from assign. There were three-year degree with more than 30 exams! The result is that the preparation has become much more fragmented, short courses, so that the students did not have time to absorb the material.
Then what happened?
Mussi reform has arrived, in 2004, which has tried to put the first pieces of reform: limited the number of examinations, 20 and 12 to three years to a specialist, like returning to the old model . The implementation of that reform has taken place in the past two years, and students are now entering the brand new ones and then sorting.
all right then?
Well ... Again good initiative, but the implementation was a bit 'Italian-style, if you pass the time: very often the universities were limited to examining each other's sticks, inventing the so-called "integrated courses", that is required by more teachers. And maybe, to pass an Integrated Course, the student must pass a number of sub-tests, so nothing changes from before the 2004 reform.
We can already say how the university comes from these reforms?
is still early in reality: we consider only now beginning to graduate students NMO ... it takes time to understand how things work.
But there is another dance in reform, this time the minister Gelmini?
Yes it was discussed a lot but has yet to be approved permanently. So far, the greatest changes have been economic, in order to limit the financial autonomy of universities and force them to save.
Any advice for those approaching the choice of university?
least two: to choose something they like, but even more to choose thinking about the work. There are too many students who graduate in very specific subjects or poorly connected to the world of work, and then can not find a place. Oh, and there is no law that everyone should go to college. Better to go to work, if it is difficult to study. There is also the case that you earn more.
